An open letter to those who support us

Below is an email I sent earlier this week to all of the wedding planners we worked with in 2021. However, it occurred to me after sending it, this message stands for all of the brides and/or grooms who hired us as well as to all the fellow industry professionals who have supported us along the way.  So without further ado, read below, if you’d like, and consider this a heartfelt thank you. – Lisa

Hello all,

If you are getting this note it’s because you’ve played an integral role in our success this year. So right off the bat, I want to say THANK YOU.

If you haven’t noticed already I got behind in my gift-giving this holiday season. It’s just been one of those years (amiright?!).  But I’ve been thinking over the past couple of days how I want to do something for you- send you an art book (like I usually do), a great bottle of wine, a nice pair of pj’s, robe or slippers- something to bring you a bit of joy and comfort which you deserve, this year more than ever. You’ve worked so hard and I know you’ve been at your wit’s end. 2021 was nothing short of a doozy.

With this in mind today, I opened my laptop to shop around and see what I could cook up but in the process, I got distracted by the news and in particular, this article about child marriage. It’s all somewhat serendipitous because I was just at Engage! where I got the chance to know Elodie Duyker who works for the non-profit Vow for Girls.  I learned their sole function is to raise money in order to get it directly in the hands of local organizations and people (like Fatouma in the article) who know on a local level how to intervene and save young girls from marriage.  Sometimes the solution is as simple as making sure there is reliable transportation for a girl to get to school. Sometimes it’s paying her school tuition. It could be any number of issues that only locals know how to fix so all of the efforts come from within their own communities.

In short, Elodie inspired me and it’s been on my mind to find a way to contribute. While I know you all love gifts and you absolutely deserve to be pampered, my meeting Elodie along with the timing of this article feels like too much of a coincidence to ignore. So I hope you don’t mind but in lieu of gifts this year, I’ve made a donation that, according to the website, will be enough to pay the tuition for 27 girls for a year of school + their supplies and transportation.  I don’t know if 27 sounds like a lot or a little but honestly, even if it just saves one girl from getting married before she is ready, that would be pretty amazing.

I can’t emphasize this point enough- because you continue to give us business that puts food on our tables, we are in turn fortunate enough to be able to pay that forward to others who aren’t as fortunate as us. So THANK YOU for everything you do for us and thank you for having a hand in helping us support others.

Very warmest wishes to you, your team, and your families as we wrap up this holiday season, and very best wishes to you all for 2022 and beyond.
